“Letting go gives us freedom, and freedom is the only condition for happiness. If, in our heart, we still cling to anything – anger, anxiety, or possessions – we cannot be free.”—Nhat Hanh

“Serenity comes when you trade expectations for acceptance.”—Gautama Buddha

“Happiness depends on how you accept, understand and surrender to situations.”—Mātā Amritānandamayī Devī

Sometimes it is hard to let go and accept, especially when someone has wronged you or when you have an emotional attachment to a desired outcome.

But once you finally do let go and accept something or someone you previously resisted, have you noticed it can make you feel relaxed and peaceful?

Another benefit of letting go of and accepting things and people you can’t change is that it clears the way for you to perceive potentially better possibilities.

Letting go and accepting is also good for goals. Surrendering to the idea that there may be a better plan will help you get out of your way and perhaps perceive options that hadn’t occurred to you before.

Tip: Clearing your energy makes letting go and accepting easier.

Tip: Accepting personal responsibility for yourself and your situation is empowering.

“When you think everything is someone else’s fault, you will suffer a lot. When you realize that everything springs only from yourself, you will learn both peace and joy.”—Dalai Lama

Key takeaway: Letting go and accepting will give you mental freedom and increase happiness.

Action steps:

1. Who or what in your life, that you cannot change, are you resisting?

2. Consider how your life would improve if you accepted and let go of what or who you are resisting.

3. Is there anyone you’re blaming for something who you could, at least temporarily, cease blaming to see how it feels?

4. Express letting go and acceptance of something (start with something minor) for a day and notice how your perception changes about it.
