The Astrology of Robin Williams' Death
By Bracha Goldsmith
It's with great sadness that I am writing this because he was such a gifted man, warm, kind, generous and with a heart that people could connect to.
He shall certainly be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his close family and friends at this time.
Love to you all, Bracha
On Monday, August 11th, at 11.55am local time, Oscar-winning actor and comedian, Robin Williams died, and reports suggest that he may have committed suicide.
With the sad passing of Robin Williams, it's valuable to look at his astrology chart to see how the Uranus Pluto square and several other difficult aspects had been impacting his life for the last couple of years.
As always, it's vital to start out with an understanding of the natal chart. This shows a person's basic character, their drives and motivations.
The birth details that are publicly available for Robin Williams are: 21st July 1951, 13:34, Chicago, Illinois.
This gives him an ascendant at 12 degrees Scorpio, Sun in Cancer and Moon in Pisces: a triple Water combination which is extremely sensitive, intuitive and emotional.
His great acting and gift for comedy is shown by his Moon in Pisces which is a chameleon and can change itself to fit its surroundings. It's flexible, changeable and imaginative. His Sun in Cancer in the 9th house is lightened tremendously because it is the natural house of Sagittarius which is fun and often plays the clown.
With Mercury in Leo exactly on the midheaven, he is a natural wordsmith with something to say to the world. With Pluto also close to the midheaven, he had something important to say that will be enduring, and that's certainly true.
With Pisces Moon, Leo midheaven and planets in Leo, these are classic placements for a successful acting career.
He has several grand trines in his chart from the ascendant to his Mars Uranus conjunction in the 8th house and his Moon in Pisces in the 4th house. This shows his great talent and ability to think quickly and creatively.
The more challenging aspects are Venus in Virgo opposite the sensitive Moon in Pisces. As an only child, despite being from a wealthy family, it's likely that there were issues with feeling abandoned or rejected by his mother. There's an indication of loneliness and not feeling loved.
The other difficult aspects are part of a T square with Mars conjunct Uranus at its apex. The Mars Uranus conjunction in the 8th house indicates someone who could act rashly and with it being square to Jupiter this shows a tendency to go to extremes. There are reports showing that he was bipolar and the square from Uranus conjunct Mars to Jupiter could certainly show this kind of
behavior.
Jupiter magnifies whatever it touches and therefore could intensify his feelings of euphoria and then feelings of utter desolation and depression.
With Neptune, ruler of his Moon in Pisces also in the mix being square to the Uranus Mars conjunction and opposite Jupiter, this shows that he sought solace in drugs, alcohol and anything that helped him to escape from the pains of his world.
These are the basics of the natal chart. Of course, there is always much more to say, but these are the salient points that help to illustrate the analysis of his transits and progressions that follow.
Transits and Progressions
Transiting Neptune was conjunct his natal Moon in Pisces, exactly opposite Venus, showing feelings of disillusion and despair. Transiting Uranus, planet of surprises and sudden events was conjunct natal Jupiter thereby setting off the natal T square involving the Mars Uranus conjunction in the 8th house and opposite to Neptune. This could have triggered a sudden, unplanned decision to take his own life.
He is a very cardinal person, with 5 out of the 10 planets in cardinal signs, indicating someone that wasn't afraid to take action and to do what he wanted to do.
The transit of Uranus square to Pluto had been affecting him greatly for the last couple of years, and at the time of death, transiting Pluto in the 2nd house was exactly opposite the Mars Uranus conjunction in the 8th house. Yet another difficult aspect triggering emotions that concerned life, death, feeling trapped, wanting to be free.
Added to all that was the fact that Saturn had recently come into his first house, possibly indicating physical health problems and progressed Sun in Virgo was conjunct natal Saturn in Virgo in the last degree of Virgo, indicating a change in his life that with Saturn may have looked daunting and too difficult to contend with.
As if all that weren't enough, we had the powerful Full Moon at 18 degrees Aquarius just before his death which was exactly opposite natal Pluto possibly shining a light on everything that was affecting him emotionally at the time.
With difficult aspects from Pluto, Uranus, Neptune and Saturn, and with his innate sensitivity to everything, it's perhaps not surprising that he took such a radical and probably unplanned action to end his life.
