The Transit of Jupiter in Cancer

Wherever it is occurring in your chart is where you need to expand and grow.

For example, if it is transiting your 2nd house of finances, more money could come and new job opportunities could come to you. However, as Jupiter magnifies whatever it touches, if you are spending beyond your means, you may find that you lose large amounts of money and you find it difficult to hold onto what you do have.

If it is transiting your 4th house, it could mean a physical move, selling or buying real estate or land, or a lot of travel. It could also indicate good fortune connected with your family. If, however, you have been experiencing emotional problems with your family, these issues could be magnified during this transit of Jupiter and you may not be able to ignore them any longer.

Maybe it's going through your 7th house of relationships: this could bring new romance into your life or even a marriage. If you are single, try not to jump into the first relationship that comes along because you'll probably have quite a selection to choose from as the year progresses.

Let's look back at what was happening in the world 12 years ago: it was the year of 9/11, when the US faced a violent political assault. This resulted in an outpouring of emotions and a desire for increased security. There was also a greater desire to get to know people in our community and find ways of helping one another.

Jupiter in Cancer alone wasn't the main cause of the September 11 attacks. There were other aspects that stimulated the USA's natal stellium of planets in Cancer. I am, however, anticipating some exceptionally important events during this transit.

Cancer rules: Food, drink, cooking, family, community, homeland, ancestry, emotions, safety, security, real estate, the oceans, psychic abilities, nurturing, children, pets.

Businesses in any of these areas will see a surge in popularity.

Because Cancer rules the home, I expect to see a proliferation of home-based businesses. So if you want to start working from home, this is a great year to do it.

    FAMILY AND NURTURING
Family values will be highlighted and entertainment from the `good old days` could see a resurgence. You might find yourself enlarging your family during this coming year, as well as nurturing or caring for others. Jupiter in Gemini expanded our intellectual and social activities, while Jupiter in Cancer will expand our emotions and our ability to care deeply for one another.

Because Cancer is the mother of the zodiac, it rules nurturing, and Jupiter will magnify everything connected with taking care of others, especially family members. If you have aging or have sick parents, they could be moving in with you or you could be moving in with them. Whatever responsibilities you have had in the past will multiply. Up until now, our parents and grandparents have largely been ignored. Granny or grandad have been put into an old age home, or mom and dad into assisted living. Because of financial hardships, many will not be able to afford to put their family into assisted living or old age homes.

    FOOD
Issues around food will proliferate: how and where we grow it, becoming more independent, urban farming is already a growing trend i.e., growing food in limited space.

Food swapping and exchange of resources will grow. Throughout history, food has been swapped and traded but a modern movement is growing around the world. Anything from bread, to ice cream, fresh juices, eggs, fruits and veggies are on offer. The swaps are organised events where people trade home-grown, home-made or foraged foods with each other. No money changes hands, food is the only currency.

Since Cancer rules food, don't be surprised if you are inclined to indulge in sweet and fattening things, and you may put on a few pounds. Be willing to exercise in order to bring your body back into balance again.

Some of you may not be aware of this, but Monsanto was granted full immunity from federal courts in the event that one of its genetically modified creations was found to be causing damage to health or the environment. Thanks to activism, it looks like the Monsanto Protection Act may soon be repealed and I wouldn't be surprised if we see this during this transit of Jupiter in Cancer.

    THE PAST
You may find that your security becomes more important than ever, you will want loved ones and things that you love around you. You may not want to venture so much out of the house. Cancer loves the past so you may start looking into your ancestry and your roots. In fact, I haven't been in touch with one of my cousins for over a decade and suddenly he got in touch with me via an Ancestry website and sent me some photos of members of my family that I haven't seen since I was a child.

    REAL ESTATE
As Cancer rules real estate, I think we will see new forms of housing appearing. Passive housing is very big in Europe i.e. houses that need little if any heating or cooling despite outside weather temperature changes. This is going to be a wave of the future. What's even better, is that they are not very costly to build.

There are many new initiatives happening. In Vienna, for example, 12,000 new homes are being built all of which will be very energy-efficient. People without cars will be given priority and places that would have been reserved for parking will now be green spaces. Public transportation is so good here, that you can live happily and of course much more cheaply without a car. Also, think of the reduction in stress levels when someone else is doing the driving!

    OCEANS, SEAS and FLOODING
In the build-up to Jupiter going into Cancer, Europe recently had its worst flooding in over 100 years. My friend who lives near Munich in Germany said that what was once meadows was so inundated that swans were happily swimming on it.

As I am writing this newsletter, there are terrible floods in India with at least 50,000 people stranded and hundreds washed away, and thousands missing. Reports are saying these are the worst floods to hit the area in over 70 years.

Deadly floods have hit western Canada with more than 100,000 people forced to flee their homes. Torrential rain has washed away roads and bridges and thousands of people are without electricity.

I am anticipating much more flooding and an increase in the number of tsunamis. The oceans will flood large portions of land in many places.

We'll see more news stories about our oceans and how important they are to life on earth. They take up the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and help to regulate the planet. The more acidic they turn, the less life they will be able to support and this is exactly what has been happening. There is a potential treasure-house of medical cures in our coral reefs that could be beneficial to our health provided the water has not become too polluted already.

    COMMUNITY
We'll see new types of community arising: skills sharing and clothes swapping, recycling and learning how to make and fix things yourself.

A friend of my new family here in Vienna had a huge amount of clothes from his aunt who was moving to a smaller apartment and getting rid of a ton of stuff. The girls in the house (all four of us) had so much fun trying on all these clothes and with cries of: "Ooh, that looks lovely on you," and "that colour really suits you... " and several hours later after a good deal of mixing and matching we shared everything among us. A couple of items were a little large for me, so I took them to be altered and for just 15 Euros (about USD$20), I have a whole new wardrobe!

Keep in mind that we are all family, we are all one. Let's bring this exalted Jupiter into its highest manifestation and cherish one another. Together we can move mountains!
