Using Aromatherapy To Help With Anxiety And Depression

    By Shana Smith

Do you suffer from depression or anxiety and feel that nothing can help? Many people suffer from these disorders and are always looking for new treatments. Living with either disorder can make life quite difficult, not only for the individual, but for family and friends as well. Fortunately, there are natural treatments available that can help an individual deal with the effects of depression and anxiety. Let's take a look at how aromatherapy can be used in the treatment of these disorders to help bring peace to your life.

Using Bergamot To Help Your Mood

One of the most popular essential oils on the market today is Bergamot. This is one of the most powerful essential oils on the market to help fight depression. In fact, it has been used on patients who are currently in hospice care and using bergamot essential oil during a massage can increase happiness and reduce pain. For those who are not interested in massages, bergamot can be used by either diluting it into an air diffuser or by inhaling it directly from a bottle.

Lavender In The Fight Against Depression

Lavender is one of the most popular essential oils simply due to its pleasing aroma. However, it is one of the best oils to have in the home if you or a loved one is fighting the devastating effects of depression. A study that was conducted by the International Journal of Psychiatry in Clinical Practice stated that an 800-milligram capsule was more than effective in helping to alleviate depression and anxiety.

In addition, this natural oil does not contain any of the harmful side effects that are typically associated with psychotropic drugs. To get the best results from your lavender oil, it is recommended to use it in the evening before going to bed. This can be done by placing a couple of drops into an oil diffuser or placing a drop behind each ear.

Ylang Ylang To Stave Off Depression

Ylang Ylang has incredible benefits for those suffering from depression despite its funny name. This essential oil can help release anger, jealousy, and hurt from the body. One of the best ways to enjoy the full effects of Ylang Ylang is by drawing a hot bath in the evening. Add 10 drops of the Ylang Ylang into a warm to a hot bath to help remove all the negativity from your life.

Ylang Ylang can be a tad harsher than other essential oils so it may be wise to add 1 tablespoon of a carrier oil into the bath as well. However, keep in mind that your oil should only be added once the water has stopped. Adding oils to running water will cause them to evaporate much quicker. As with all essential oils, Ylang Ylang can be used in diffusers, massage, or inhaled. It is all up to your personal preferences as to which is the best application for you and your needs.

Try using these oils for a natural way to treat anxiety and depression to help calm your mind and to give you a greater sense of peace and happiness in your life.
