A Mother's Gift

beautiful and awe-inspiring, is dimmed and even lost before
we reach adulthood."

It is amazing how the wondering open way of perceiving the
world, as a child, is lost to us as we grow older. I think
that is perhaps one of the major reasons that children are a
blessing. They awaken the mother to see the world with young
eyes that which we forgot we once could see.
This Mother's Day many are sending notes, gifts and cards to
Mom.
Moms are a blessing to our world. They birth, nurture, and
teach our children. They enable us as a species to survive.
However, the greatest gift that every mother gives us with
each birth is the opportunity to see the world again with
new eyes.
We do not have to loose the vision of our inner child. We
just have to hang around more mothers and their children and
we will be renewed. Every time we see a Mother interacting
with unconditional love and awe at the mystery of her
child's realization of the world, we can have our own eyes
cleared a little more.
You want to get back your childhood vision and there are no
kids in the neighborhood or in your family. Watch the
Teletubbies on TV or the wonderful programs that have
children participating in exploring their world. Sesame
Street is a wonderful example of how to explore the world
with a child's eyes. Just cause your bones ache and you need
bifocals does not mean that you cannot recapture the bliss
of childlike recognition of something new and wonderful in
your world.
This weekend, even though you may be separated from your
mother, you can affirm the wonderful gift she gave you to
see the world for the first time. Travel through your mind
to those moments when the two of you explored all things
bright and beautiful and you will feel the wondrous sense of
exploration and trust that only a mother's guidance and love
can give us.
In the Bible, it is written that one cannot enter the
kingdom of heaven unless one sees with the eyes of a child.
Today you can enter the kingdom of heaven on earth by
focusing with wonder and delight all the beauty in our
world. Turn off the news, delete the e-mails with negative
energy, and instead focus on beauty, delight, love, and
exploring something with child-like simplicity that you have
never looked at before (for some that might be self).
Today: Open your eyes to the bliss of seeing as a child.
